Christmas in Skillman
Hi my name is Simone and I’m living here in Skillman/NJ with my Indian host family. I´m very happy here, because my family is doing everything to make me happy!
Christmas was wonderful. Usually they don´t celebrate Christmas so much, because they are Indian, but in Germany we are celebrating Christmas a lot and I love Christmas, so my host family was taking great pains to make my holidays here perfect.
On Christmas Eve I went with my host mum to the shops to buy gifts for my two little sunshines Vani (8) and Nanki (9). They are always getting small gifts and I think that´s good. When we were done with shopping we went back home and wrapped the gifts. And the most important thing was to put cookies and milk in front of the fireside for Santa Clause, Vani had told me.
We also had a little Christmas tree. The tree was not real, but I was glad we had a Christmas tree! And Nanki told me: It doesn´t matter
if we have a big Christmas tree, real or fake! Important is that the whole family is together. And I think so too. At Christmas day the girls woke up very early and went to my room and said: “Simone, Santa Clause was here, get up we have to unwrap our gifts!” We had a lot of fun, when we opened the gifts. After that I helped my host mum and host dad to prepare the food for our Christmas lunch. We cooked a special Indian food and ate this with the family of my host mum’s sister.
It was a great Christmas, different but very interesting and I will never forget my Christmas in the USA.
Simone
