Sebastian arbeitet in einem Hotel in Jasper, Kanada

I am really great. At the moment I enjoy the sunny weather and don't feel like I am working. The Job - I am working in Banquets - is really nice. The Job isn´t hard for me at all. On top of our salary we get tip or gratuity which are mostly the same amount as the basic salary. So great.

And an extra is that most of the time when we serve at a function either buffet or plated dinner we will have the chance to try the food we served. Which is nice if we serve things like Bison and you usually don't eat such things. At the moment it is quiet in Banquets so we work in the other outlets like the Meadows Restaurant Breakfast. Some other guys are working in In-room dining or the Emerald Launch. So flexibility is needed but who wants to work and learn wouldn´t have any problems with that.

The town Jasper I have to admit is too small for me. I mean I came from London, England (where I lived for quite a while). It is a huge difference. Anyhow the people are really nice and if your visa allows it you could take up a second job within the city. Everybody is looking for help because of the tourists. On the other side I have to say that Jasper is quite expensive. I guess because it is a tourism city. Thanks god we have the Bean - our staff canteen - at the Hotel which provides food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And you have one shared kitchen in all cabins in the old staff area and in each room of the new staff area. Just need to have all the crockery. Speaking of my accommodation, it is o.k. I life in old staff accommodation which means a cabin with 2 floors, I guess 20 rooms per floor. All double rooms. I have a internet line inside the room, a small fridge plus 2 beds and 2 wardrobes. Its doing for me. Also in the old staff area they have quiet hours from 11pm to 8am which are mostly respected.

Regarding sufficient payment, personally I am happy. I easily can pay the rent for the room and the meals at the Bean. Also I earn enough to go on trips which are organized through staff services, use the staff gym and can save money for other things. I don't have a car or family to look after but I guess with a partner and second income it would be more than manageable.

For first experience I think Jasper is a great place. To keep in mind it is far away from the next big city like Edmonton with nearly 400 km. If you are used to a big city, shopping centers and clubs you can get bored in this area.
