Financial Internship Position Description
TITLE: Financial Intern Vancouver
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To help a Financial Company manage and grow their financial planning, insurance, and investments practice. Interns could be required to interact with company contacts to inform them of the company’s services, and to maintain a database of company clients. Interns also may be involved with duties related to research and information gathering, as well as accounting, budgeting, and invoices.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Reporting Relationship:
- Reports to the Chief Financial Officer or Head Financial Planner
- Performance goals set each month, with a monthly performance review
KEY TASKS:
The following is a list of the POSSIBLE tasks involved in a typical financial internship. Previous financial internships have involved any combination of the following tasks:
Research and Gathering Information
- Perform Internet research on a variety of financial topics like portfolio analysis, investment opportunities, and capital markets
- Gather relevant information from other sources on important financial variables
Client Contact and Marketing
- Become knowledgeable about the company’s products and services: eg., insurance, investments, tax strategies, financial planning, mortgages
- Brainstorm marketing initiatives
- Call and inform clients about company products and services
- Greet clients when they come to the company
- Answer client calls
- Organize client files
- Create and maintain computer database of clients
- Prepare information for client seminars and conferences
- Create information binders to help with training
- Perform database research
- Verify data through email and/or telephone
- Make presentations to company staff as required about work completed
Accounting and Budgeting
- Prepare budgets and projections of revenue and expenses
- Prepare and send invoices as required
- Contribute towards preparation of balance sheets and other accounting documents

A Financial internship may involve ANY ONE, OR ANY COMBINATION, of the above-mentioned tasks.

- 2 years of University in a Finance course or equivalent course preferred

- Computer literate, knowledgeable about Microsoft Office and Access

- Able to take initiative
- Energetic and highly adaptable to a diverse working environment
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Good writing skills in English
