Industrial Engineering Internship Position Description
TITLE: Industrial Engineering Intern
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To assist wherever needed with industrial engineering projects. Industrial engineering interns will assist with organizing, supervising and managing the operations of industries to make sure of economical, safe and effective use of materials, energy and people. The intern could evaluate possible solutions, and propose the best solution for certain products, devices, or process improvements.

Reporting Relationship:
- Reports to the Chief Technology Officer or Engineering Supervisor
- Performance goals set each month, with a monthly performance review
KEY TASKS:
The following is a list of the POSSIBLE tasks involved in a typical industrial engineering internship. Previous industrial engineering internships have involved mainly research, with some time spent on one or more of the following tasks.
Research and Gather Information
- Gather information relevant to solving company engineering problems using the Internet and other research sources
- Propose designing new formulas, components, materials, processes, functions, and devices to solve company problems and/or make improvements
- Assess the techniques and equipment used in production processes to see if they can operate more efficiently
Component/Process Design
- Designing new machines, equipment or systems taking into account cost, availability of materials, strength and maintenance requirements, appearance and impact on the user and on the environment
- use computer-aided design (CAD) to assist in design and drawing
Testing
- Test components and prototypes for optimal functioning under real-world conditions
- Set up work control systems, e.g. testing of equipment to make sure that standards of performance, quality, cost and safety are met.
Evaluation & Modification of Manufacturing Systems/Facilities
- Assist in specifying, selecting, installing and managing the maintenance of factory production and machinery
- Assisting in the selection and implementation of technology/systems most appropriate for the best component, product, and/or installation for the company (e.g. implementing a lean manufacturing strategy)
- Select based on best efficiency, functionality, size, best value, and continuous improvement of the technology
- Conducting Quality Systems analysis/audits (i.e. ISO) of manufacturing systems or assisting the company in maintaining records for such audits.
- Planning and designing systems that increase productivity by improving integration of people, materials, equipment and finance
- Assisting in choosing and developing more efficient and safe manufacturing strategies using new, existing or modified machinery and equipment
- Introducing or recommending changes to work methods, safety measures and labour organization
- Assessing time taken to perform a task or to complete a particular production stage and set performance standards
- Analysing and recommending changes to the workplace to maximise worker comfort (for example by improving light, altering bench space or machine height and reducing noise).
Reporting Results
Write detailed, accurate scientific reports detailing all activities undertaken
Any Electronics and Communications Engineering internship will USUALLY involve Research and Information Gathering as well as ANY ONE, OR ANY COMBINATION, of the above-mentioned tasks.

- 2 years of University in an Industrial Engineering program or equivalent combination of coursework preferred
- Experience in engineering research, analysis, design, testing, and evaluation
- Extremely Computer literate with an emphasis on Windows and Linux based systems
- Energetic and highly adaptable to a diverse working environment
- Very organized and detail-oriented
- Has a “Do whatever it takes”, “Never give up” attitude
