Marketing Coordinator Internship Position Description


TITLE: Marketing Coordinator Intern


PURPOSE OF POSITION:


To assist wherever needed with promoting a company's or client's sales of products or services. This can involve marketing existing products, assisting in the development of new products to cater for consumer demand, or assisting in the developing markets for new products or services.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Reporting Relationship:

  • Reports to the Chief Executive Officer or Marketing Director.
  • Performance goals set each month, with a monthly performance review

 

KEY TASKS:


The following is a list of the POSSIBLE tasks involved in a typical Marketing Coordinator Internship. Previous marketing coordination internships have involved mainly research, with some time spent on one or more of the following tasks:

Market Research

  • Identifying and analyzing an organization's strengths and weaknesses.
  • Designing questionnaires and selecting sample groups to survey
  • Collecting facts from sources such as company records showing the total volume of sales, or from government statistics and information such as population census data
  • Arranging and analyzing collected information
  • Interpreting and predicting current and future consumer trends
  • Writing reports on the results of the research activities
  • Identifying specific consumer markets.

 

Marketing

  • Setting goals for market share and growth and analyzing opportunities and threats.
  • Assisting in developing and implementing appropriate strategies by selecting, segmenting and targeting markets, and assisting in promoting products and services to those markets
  • Assisting in developing new products
  • Participating in arranging pricing and setting prices for products and services
  • Contact with distribution channels such as shops and wholesalers
  • Assisting with the arrangement of the distribution of products (such as taking orders, warehousing, stock control and transport), managing corporate image or undertaking direct marketing
  • Developing plans for advertising, sales promotion, public relations, personal selling and sales management
  • Undertaking marketing audits to monitor sales performance.

 

Advertising and Brand Management

  • Assisting with gathering information from clients and other sources about the products to be advertised and obtaining relevant information from clients such as product and company details, budget and marketing goals and marketing research
  • Assisting in supervising and coordinating the work of the relevant production departments so that the advertising is developed as planned to meet deadlines and budget requirements

 

Event Coordination

  • Offering suggestions to make sure outcomes of event can be met.
  • Assessing the type and costs of services to be provided, within a budget
  • Assisting with the organization of a venue and ensuring that it is appropriately set up, with regard to seating and decor
  • Administering service providers such as caterers, musicians or transport companies
  • Assisting in the coordination of staff to make sure that the program of events occurs on time, for example, the serving of food and refreshments
  • Collecting and analyzing data on projects undertaken, and report on project outcomes
  • Finding solutions to problems concerning services or programs provided, or the people affected
  • Advising senior management on matters requiring their attention and assisting in the implementation of their decisions
  • Reviewing and developing administrative systems and procedures


Any Marketing Coordinator Internship will USUALLY involve Research and Information Gathering as well as ANY ONE, OR ANY COMBINATION, of the above-mentioned tasks.

Desired experience and knowledge

  • 2 years of University in a Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or equivalent combination of coursework.
  • Good Computer literacy with an emphasis on Windows based systems.
  • Energetic and highly adaptable to a diverse working environment
  • Has a “Do whatever it takes”, “Never give up” attitude
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills in English
