Interview mit Cecilia von unserem argentinischen Partner

How do you support exchange students while they are in Argentina?
We have tutors who suppport our students while they are in Argentina. The participant's tutor follows up continually with our students to make sure they are feeling well, and enjoying their program. Besides this, the student can contact us on our 24 hour emergency phone 365 days a year.
How would you describe a “typical” Argentinean host family?
The typical Argentinean family consists of a father, mother and 2 or 3 children at least. The extended family with uncles, aunts, cousins and grandparents also plays an important role. They will love to treat and consider the student as family as well. Family relationships show a warm attitude characterized by affection signs that the students have to know beforehand in order to avoid surprises. Affection is shown with kisses and hugs and the students will experience this from the moment they arrive at the airport.
The host family is eager to show the natural beauties typical of the area, help the participant to get immersed into costums such as drinking mate, playing football, barbecuing,...In other words: to do what an Argentinean likes to do.
Why did you decide to work in the area high school exchange programs?
I always wanted to work in an intercultural environment. Being a part of the experience of bringing cultures closer was what encouraged me to work in this field. It is rewarding to help students and families from different cultures to meet each other and help them to create bonds that last forever.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I really enjoy being part of the evolution of the students: from the very beginning until the end of the program, see how they become a member of an Argentinean family and how they get used to our culture.
